TS Training Powerboat Instruction offers powerboat / RIB instruction courses based on the Isle of Wight and Solent area.

We are located in Cowes on the Isle of Wight at Sheppard's Wharf Marina.

We offer the following powerboat courses.

The waters off Cowes are a perfect training area for the beginner or experienced person wanting to increase their skills.

RYA Powerboat Level 1 and 2 (2 days) 

This is an intensive two-day course, which develops the skills to handle and navigate a power vessel at speed and to manoeuvre it at close quarters on your arrival.

Preparation for sea: Safety equipment, charts and GPS wharps and equipment, securing fuel tanks.

Boat handling and manoeuvres effects of current or tide, high and low speed manoeuvring, propeller controls, securing to a buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside, man overboard

Theory and background. Types of craft and engine, maintenance checks, IRPCS (International Regulations for the Prevention of Collision at Sea), interpreting weather forecasts, emergency action

RYA Powerboat Intermediate Course (2 Days)

The aim of this course is to improve boat handling and to learn the skills necessary to undertake short passages by day. The course includes navigation & Pilotage, fuel & engine checks, as well as boat handling in rough weather.

Preparation: Pilotage, navigation, fuel and engine checks.

Boat handling: effects of waves and rougher conditions, power trim and trim tabs, berthing in different situations, use of GPS in high speed navigation and Pilotage by day.

RYA Powerboat Advanced (2 Days including a night exercise-October-March)

The aim of this course is to improve boat all weather handling and to develop the skills required to undertake long distance passages by day and night in bad weather and unfamiliar waters. Special attention is paid to high-speed navigation at night. All candidates must be 18 years or over and hold their short range VHF qualification.

N.B. The candidates must have navigation knowledge at least to RYA Yacht-Master Standard.
